Mr. Mancini also works with the children at the Kathryn Croaning Child
Development Laboratory School at Norwalk Community College developing an organic
garden where the children are introduced to the different vocabulary associated
with gardening as well as the skills of planting, weeding and harvesting crops.
Last year, he worked with the preschool children with respect and a genuine love
of the work of a Master Gardener. The children gained so much from the
experience as testimony written by one of the teachers in the program:
year the children at CDLS were fortunate enough to have “Farmer Nick” be part of
their learning experience. Nick Mancini would promptly arrive every Monday
morning to help the children plant an organic garden on the playground. He
taught the children about preparing the soil, planting the seeds, and
maintaining the garden. His kind, gentle nature quickly earned him celebrity
status with the children. There was constant talk about Farmer Nick and the
children were so proud to see the growth that occurred in the garden. This was
a wonderful learning experience for the children at CDLS.”
